ALBAWABA - A government source told AFP that the Sudan army-backed council is studying a ceasefire proposal suggested by the United States to end the war in Sudan.

The war in Sudan erupted in mid-April 2023 between the Sudanese Army and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces.

Today, the Secretary-General of the UN, António Guterres, urges an end to the 'nightmare of violence' in Sudan.

Earlier, he said, "I am gravely concerned by the recent military escalation in El Fasher, in North Darfur state, Sudan."

Guterres added, "For over 18 months, El Fasher and the surrounding areas in North Darfur have been an epicentre of suffering – with hundreds of thousands of civilians trapped by a tightening siege by the Rapid Support Forces."
