ALBAWABA- Fifteen people were killed and at least 32 others injured on Tuesday after a pickup truck carrying day laborers overturned in Egypt’s Ismailia Governorate, the Ministry of Health said.
The crash occurred in the Al-Dawawis area near the Al-Shabab power station. The vehicle was carrying agricultural workers, many of them casual laborers traveling from villages in neighboring Sharqia Governorate, including Al-Salhiya Al-Qadima and Al-Azazi. Initial reports indicated that several victims were children and teenagers.
Ambulance crews and security forces responded to the scene, while the injured were transferred mainly to Qassasin Central Hospital and other nearby medical facilities.
Health Minister Khaled Abdel-Ghaffar is overseeing the medical response, with the ministry’s Crisis and Emergency Operations Room placing hospitals on heightened alert. Medical teams, medicines and essential supplies have been made available, while authorities continue to monitor the condition of the injured.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation, with local reports suggesting that excessive speed or a tire blowout may have contributed.
The incident highlights persistent road-safety concerns involving overloaded vehicles transporting informal and agricultural workers in Egypt.
A similar crash in Giza’s Al-Saff area earlier this month killed seven workers. Road accident deaths and injuries in Egypt also increased by more than 10 percent in 2025, according to national statistics.
