ALBAWABA - A magnitude 7.4 earthquake struck Colombia on August 10, leaving at least 132 people dead and over 480 people injured, the BBC reported Tuesday in an updated casualties toll.
Authorities declared a state of emergency in Colombia as the quake is considered one of its largest earthquakes in years. Additionally, authorities said the death toll is likely to increase, as many people are still under the rubble of collapsed buildings.
Videos were shared on social media showing people screaming and rushing to the streets, leading to the complete or partial collapse of many buildings, including a part of a church and part of the University Hospital of Cali.
Colombian officials said 32 buildings collapsed in Cali.
The earthquake hit at 07:34 p.m. local time at a depth of 103km in Chocó province, the country's geological service explained Monday. The quake was felt across an enormous area.
More than 480 people were injured in the disaster, Colombia's Association of Capital Cities revealed.
