Moamer KadhafiIn hopes of deflecting Western media attacks against the Arab and Muslim world, Libyan leader Muammar Al Qaddafi has written a screenplay for a new drama series scheduled to broadcast next Ramadan.

Arab press reported this week that the series’ theme would center on oppression, dictatorship and the relationship between Arabs and their governments. It will also stress the strong ties between Christians and Muslims in the Arab world.

While few details have been publicly disclosed, industry insiders have said the script will be adapted to television by Syrian writer Fadel Affash and produced by Syrian producer Ziyyad Al-Rees. Qaddafi’s venture into the television industry is the first of its kind for an Arab leader. Nevertheless the Libyan leader does posses some experience in entertainment writing, most notably for a screenplay titled “Years of Torture and Oppression” in which he addresses the suffering of the Libyan people under Italian occupation. He has also written several short stories.
