IDMI Purchases iDirect Hub to Launch Broadband Service in EMEA and Asia
Posted: 03-11-2009 , 15:46 GMT

VT iDirect, Inc. (iDirect), a company of VT Systems Inc (VT Systems), today announced that IDMI, the international arm of Lebanon's leading Internet Service Provider, IDM, has launched an iDirect-based satellite broadband service covering the Middle East, North Africa and parts of Asia. iDirect is a world leader in satellite-based IP communications technology.

IDMI's iDirect-based service provides Ku-band connectivity via the SES New Skies NSS-6 satellite orbiting over the EMEA region and an iDirect hub co-located at the Cyta-Makarios teleport in Cyprus. IDMI will initially roll out services in Afghanistan, Iraq, and East and South Asia, with plans to expand the network in Africa with additional hubs later this year.

The new offering brings high-speed connectivity to corporate enterprises, financial institutions and government organizations as they continue to rely on satellite communications to advance vital telecommunications infrastructure.

"With satellite connectivity providing core communications infrastructure in developing nations, it's critical that service providers can supply enough bandwidth to support business growth and social advancement. NSS-6's position provides optimal coverage over our target area and a major hot spot for Internet connectivity into the Middle East and Africa. The efficiencies of the iDirect platform will help us stretch this satellite capacity further to support a variety of customer applications."
