Posted: 02-10-2008 , 11:30 GMT

FloodsFlash floods in Algeria have killed at least 29 people and wounded 84, state radio reported on Thursday. Wednesday's floods followed incessant rain in the Ghardaia region, about 600 kilometres south of Algiers.

Algeria's Interior Minister Noureddine Yazid Zerhouni said earlier that 13 people had been killed and up to 600 homes had been damaged.

The official APS news agency said that hundreds of people have been rescued by helicopter but that many others were still missing.

In neighboring Morocco, the MAP news agency conveyed two people drowned in floods near the city of Marrakech.
