Lebanese Premier Fouad Saniora on Friday protested to UN Secretary General Ban ki-moon against what he called "serious Israeli threats" targeting Lebanon. A government source said Saniora sent a memo to Ban asking him to circulate the protest to U.N. Security Council members.
The memo, however, did not ask for a Security Council meeting.
Saniora's memo to Ban included a "protest against threats made by Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert targeting Lebanon," the source told Naharnet.
The decision to lodge the complaint was taken by the Saniora cabinet on Thursday. It came after Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert warned that Israel would hit back harder than before if Lebanon's Hizbullah attacked again. Olmert said Israel did not use all means to respond then, but "if Lebanon becomes a Hizbullah state, then we won't have any restrictions in this regard."
