EQUATE Petrochemical Company announced today that it achieved 20 Million Safe Work Hours on October 27, 2009, without any Day Away Work Case (DAWC).

Commenting on this milestone, EQUATE President & CEO Hamad Al-Terkait said “This is a challenge! With a work force of almost 3000 employees and contractors on our site, the record was achieved after more than three years of operating and maintaining existing units plus commissioning new facilities.”

Al-Terkait added “Such achievements prove that EQUATE continues to set the safety standard in the petrochemical sector through leading by example. We are proud of it!”

On his part, EQUATE Environment, Health & Safety (EH&S) Department Leader Yousef Hashem Al-Gharabally said “These 20 Million Safe Work Hours are the result of more than 36 months of dedicated efforts by EQUATE’s employees and contractors who deserve utmost congratulations as they have truly embraced safety as a priority.”

Al-Ghrabally added “With all barriers to train and monitor the contractors’ labor, such an achievement proves that EQUATE, as a Kuwaiti company with more than 55% Kuwaitis, is strictly aligned with international industrial standards governing occupational safety which greatly increases overall business efficiency.”

Considered one of the world’s leading companies in producing Polyethylene and Ethylene Glycol, EQUATE was established in 1995 and it is presently a joint venture between Petrochemical Industries Company (PIC), The Dow Chemical Company (Dow), Boubyan Petrochemical Company (BPC) and Qurain Petrochemical Industries Company (QPIC). It commenced production in 1997 and currently provides markets in the Middle East, Asia, Africa and Europe with high quality petrochemical products.
